Wisconsin College Counselor of the Year
In May 2021 our MCDS Director of College Counseling Matt Koehler was awarded the Wisconsin Association of College Admission Counselors (WACAC) 2021 High School Counseling Professional of the Year. This award is earned for exemplifying excellence and dedication to serving the needs of students in the transition from high school to college. A few of the remarks shared about Matt during the award presentation:
Matt is intensely student-centric. He is well received by families, but is incredibly connected to the students he serves. Because of the welcoming environment and atmosphere he has created, Matt’s office is the unofficial hang out of the senior class each year. Matt regularly goes above and beyond the call of duty in his work with students. As the college counselor, his job is specific to the college search process. However, students feel so well connected to Matt, they often turn to him for any number of things – and Matt will always be there for them.
The primary objective of the comprehensive college counseling program Matt has developed is to build a meaningful relationship with each MCDS student in order to help them find their best-fit college or university. They are empowered with current and accurate information about themselves and their countless post-IB options, along with seasoned insight in order to manage the complex steps of the college planning process with grit, optimism, and independence. Matt works tirelessly with students and parents to ensure universities do not miss out on the opportunity to have a MCDS graduate on campus as a vital part of their educational communities.
